In the UK, many garages fall under permitted development rights, meaning you may not need full planning permission if the build meets certain criteria. However, in some cases, you may still need to apply for planning permission.
Factors that determine whether planning permission is required for your garage include:
- Size and Height: Garages that exceed specific size limits or are built to a certain height may require planning permission. Typically, single-storey structures are allowed under permitted development, provided they don't exceed 2.5 metres in height if within 2 metres of a boundary, or 4 metres if they have a dual-pitched roof.
- Location: If your garage is to be built at the front of your property or within 2 metres of your boundary, you will likely need planning permission. Garages built in certain conservation areas, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), or green belt land may face stricter regulations.
- Design and Aesthetic Impact: If your garage will significantly alter the appearance of the property, or if it is in a designated heritage or conservation area, you may need to submit a full planning application.
- Access and Driveways: Any changes to vehicle access or the creation of a new driveway may also require planning permission, especially if it impacts the public highway or is within a conservation area.

Our printed drawings pack comprises of 5 sets of drawings which can be used for planning applications by either yourself or may be passed to your architect to use. Electronic drawings are also available in PDF format which can be used for online planning applications.

Drawings will usually be sent out within 5 working days.

Please note that the drawing service is only valid for garages which are for sale on this website.
We do not offer bespoke sized garages and so cannot offer any drawings for them.
